The LGfL Trust is a consortium of the 33 local authorities and 2.500 schools working together to provide extensive and cost effective ICT services, particularly for school broadband services. By working together schools save millions of pounds a year (about £35,000 per primary and £135,000 per secondary school) compared to schools purchasing the same services individually. For a full list of LGfL services you can download our services guide. You can find our more about our partners by looking through our supplier list.

To undertake collective procurements and other business, the consortium established a non-profit company and charitable trust in 2001. The day-to-day operation of the company is the responsibility of the Chief Executive who is accountable to the Executive Board and other boards.

The LGfL is a member of the NEN Education Network to ensure that all schools, colleges and universities are connected through a single backbone enabling a high quality e-learning experience in a safe and secure networked environment.

Learning Resource Suggestions for the LGfL

The LGfL Content Manager is employed by LGfL on behalf of the all the 33 London Education Authorities to support and expedite the work of the LGfL Content Editorial Board.
The Content Manager ensures that the strategic development plans of the Editorial Board are achieved in the short, medium and long term.

You can email the content manager if you have any suggestions for online content which the LGfL Editorial Board might want to consider. Please review the documents below before making any suggestions.

Developing new Partnerships with 'not for profit' organisations
LGfL is interested in developing new partnerships with ‘not for profit’ organisations that have a responsibility / interest to develop education resources for the schools audience. LGfL can offer content development opportunities using LGfL technologies and hosting new co-developed content on LGfL servers; authenticating access for school users connected via other Learning Grids making up the National Education Network.

Links to external online content from the LGfL website
If you would like the LGfL website to link to external online resources - the content will be subject to an editorial process. In the first instance, this evaluation will be undertaken by the LGfL Content Manager and may then be subject to further evaluation by the LGfL Editorial Board. There are multiple requests for this type of linking every week, so the response time will vary  - but is usually weeks, rather than days.

For further information on what criteria is required for external online resource linking read the LGfL external linking criteria.

LGfL discount on commercial online content
LGfL will consider offering commercial products at a negotiated LGfL discount - subject to approval by the LGfL Editorial Board. For guidance on how to apply for this type of partnership with LGfL download the submission criteria.

LGfL purchase of existing commercial content
In the first instance, all potential online content must undergo an initial evaluation process by the Content Manager in which it will be assessed against submission criterion.

The Content Manager has limited availability for meetings with commercial and non commercial organisations who wish to offer online content that will assist LGfL in achieving its strategic content development aims.
The Content Manager’s diary operates several months in advance at all times – so it is not usually possible to accommodate meeting requests at short notice.

If proposed content is assessed by the Content Manager to be suitable for consideration by the Editorial Board, a proposal will be invited for consideration at a subsequent Editorial Board meeting. Meetings of the Editorial Board are held quarterly and all documentation is sent out to board members at least one week prior to each meeting.

Publishers with material to offer that fits within the LGfL strategic content development aims may contact the LGfL Content Manager; however, for the avoidance of wasted time for both parties it is strongly advised to ensure that the content and terms offered meet LGfL criteria before making contact.
